Where to sleep in Ghent

Ghent’s car-light historic core makes a centre stay attractive, but Gent-Sint-Pieters is not inside that core. Two central hostel streets and a boat hostel at Bargiekaai let you compare conventional beds with an unusual waterside lodging rather than a fabricated hotel ranking.

Source-adapted starter guide, not independently verified hotel listings. The properties below were named in dated Wikivoyage revisions. We have not checked whether they still operate, their current prices, guest scores or accessibility. Confirm identity, room type, final total and terms directly before paying.

Which part of Ghent fits your trip?

Compare Sint-Widostraat for a central hostel and Sint-Michielsplein for a different historic-centre approach. Bargiekaai is a boat-accommodation alternative: choose it for that lodging format, not because an old listing calls it better than land hostels.

Historic centre

Sint-Widostraat and Sint-Michielsplein have named hostel leads for walking-led visits.

Before choosing: Ask about room-facing activity and shared-bed arrangements.

Bargiekaai

Three named places to investigate

These are source-listed leads, not hotels we have contacted, paid placements, current room offers or a score-based ranking. No price, guest rating or availability is asserted. Compare the different areas and ask the property about the exact room and date you need.

Arrival and getting around

The source distinguishes Gent-Sint-Pieters from Gent-Dampoort and describes trams to the centre. Check which station your train uses and the final cobbled approach; cycling through tram rails with luggage is not automatically the easiest arrival.

Routes and hours may change. Check your actual stop, final walk and service with the operator; a source revision date does not verify a present timetable.

How this guide uses sources

This is original English decision advice based on reading the city and district Wikivoyage articles listed below. Descriptions and property names are adapted from those dated community-maintained pages; they are not independently checked current recommendations. Source articles can contain mistakes. We excluded doubtful details and old prices rather than making them look current. The article text adaptation is shared under CC BY-SA 4.0; view the linked page history for contributor attribution.
