Clear scores. Clear sources.

How we choose
places to stay.

We help you compare real hotels and hostels. A guest score is useful, but the room type and location matter too.

Our first lists include nine places across Rome, Berlin and Athens. We looked for a small choice of well-rated hotels and hostels in useful locations. These are starting lists, not the best nine places in Europe or a complete search of each city.

We show what a property offers, who it may suit and what to check before booking. We do not sell rooms or take booking payments. Your booking happens on another website.

Show the working.

Guest scores come from HotelsCombined. We checked the actual property pages and record each score, its scale, the displayed review count and our check date. Property descriptions use those listings and, where linked, property websites or The Hotel Guru. Area descriptions use the linked city tourism pages.

We have not inspected the properties, read every underlying review or checked Reddit discussions yet. Tourism pages describe places and sights; they do not supply the hotel scores. Several pages from one publisher are not several independent opinions.

What a community source will need

  • A working link to the actual discussion, not just a search-results page or snippet.
  • A recorded access date and a clear account of the argument, including disagreement.
  • Context: when the trip happened, what the traveler wanted and which area they meant, where that information is available.
  • A check for duplication, commercial promotion and claims that need a stronger source.

We will paraphrase the useful argument rather than reproduce whole comments. Reddit usernames and other personal details are not needed to explain why a street may or may not suit a trip. A popular comment is still an anecdote, not a representative survey.

What the ratings mean

A score such as 9.1 out of 10 is the guest score displayed by HotelsCombined when we checked that property. It is not a score we created. It is not the hotel’s star classification, and it is not a rating of the whole neighborhood. We do not average different review websites together.

The first nine properties all had a displayed score of at least 8 out of 10 and more than 100 reviews when checked. This is an inclusion rule for this initial list, not evidence that we found every property above that threshold. The source can update its scores and counts after our check date.

How the order works

Within each city, the default order is highest guest score first. Equal scores are ordered by the number of reviews, highest first, then by property name. You can also sort by review count or the example price, and filter by price band, area, trip type, hotels or hostels. Map letters stay attached to the same properties when you sort.

Booking checks are our practical advice. They do not promise quiet rooms, step-free access, a particular price or availability. Read recent reviews and ask about your exact room before booking.

Price bands and prices by area

We use a named room offer displayed by HotelsCombined for the same example stay: 5–6 October 2026, 2 guests and 1 room, checked on 28 September 2026. We show US dollars because that is the source currency. We do not guess an exchange rate or use a hotel's star rating to invent its price.

Lower cost, midrange and higher cost are editorial comparison bands for our small shortlist in each city. The guide shows the exact limits. They are not market averages or luxury classifications, and a band in one city does not mean the same cash budget in another.

Area ranges use only the checked places in that area. One place supplies one example—not a representative neighborhood range. Areas without checked room examples do not receive made-up prices. Date changes, room categories, extra beds, fees and cancellation terms can all change the total. These snapshots are not live offers or family-room prices.

What the trip tags mean

Families: family-room facilities are listed, but you must confirm children's ages, bed numbers, cots, costs and safety needs. Couples: private-room options are available; this is not a romance score. Work trips: the source lists a desk or business facilities and internet access; speeds and quiet working conditions are not tested.

The tags are our interpretation of the linked facilities, not a certification. Open “Why these trip tags?” on each property for the reason and the relevant check. A missing tag does not mean a hotel refuses that kind of traveler.

Area photographs

The new area photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under the licenses linked beside each image. We credit the creator and identify cropping, resizing and WebP conversion. They show the stated area or landmark, not rooms at a recommended property. They are illustrative photographs, not a report of today's conditions.

Our publication labels

  • Starter guide: a small property and area comparison with linked sources and dated scores. Detailed community-review research is still pending.
  • Reviewed guide: reserved for a completed editorial review with documented independent and community evidence. No current guide carries this label.
  • Source-directory record: an acquired settlement and candidate relationship, not a verified city recommendation. These linked pages are noindex and excluded from the sitemap.
  • Not published: a researched guide or translation with no accepted release does not receive an indexable placeholder page.

Clear writing is part of the research.

Every recommendation should answer a practical question. We avoid generic “hidden gem” lists, unsupported superlatives and paragraphs that could describe any city. Facts, inferences and opinions have different jobs; we label them instead of blending them into confident-sounding copy.

These first guides are desk-researched. They are not first-hand hotel inspections. We do not invent local experts or reviewer biographies. Company details are available separately.

Useful in your language, not just translated.

English researched guides are complete planning pages. One feedback-first, model-reviewed article edition is available for Rome in Italian, Berlin in German and Athens in Greek while its effective English source binding stays current. Shared navigation, legal pages, full interactive planning and the source-place directory remain English, not a translated website. Other European and regional languages are not available.

Each city-language edition must be checked for meaning, place names, source fidelity and natural phrasing with source-bound independent model review and an explicit feedback-first release. Qualified human review is optional under the current operator policy; no human approval is claimed. Without an actual available release there is no public language route, sitemap entry or alternate-language tag. Corrected English text may withdraw a stale edition until its source binding is restored. We will not claim to offer a language just because it exists in a dropdown.

Advertising pays for space, not agreement.

No property has paid to be on the current lists. Property owners can ask about future advertising. A paid placement must say “Advertisement” and appear separately from the score-sorted list. Payment cannot change a guest score or hide an important limitation.

The current property links to HotelsCombined and property websites are ordinary links, not claimed affiliate partnerships. If an approved affiliate link is used, its commission relationship must be disclosed beside it. Advertising and future editorial reviews remain separate from a third-party guest score. We do not claim to find the lowest price.

Found something that needs fixing?

Places change. If a source no longer supports a statement, an area is misrepresented or you spot a practical error, send a private problem report. We will check the evidence rather than treat the latest submission as automatically correct.

Each of the three researched city guides may have one model-reviewed edition. This is not a translated website; shared navigation and legal information remain English. An edition is withdrawn whenever its English source binding is stale.
